Description

This TM-1 has been modified with a lot of upgrades. I purchased the microphone new around 2010 and it has been used at LBA Studios since. During my ownership of this mic I performed a number of modifications to it in order to achieve a lower noise floor and what I consider to be a better sound than stock. See the full description off to the side for details.

This TM-1 has been modified with a lot of upgrades. I purchased the microphone new around 2010 and it has been used at LBA Studios since. During my ownership of this mic I performed a number of modifications to it in order to achieve a lower noise floor and what I consider to be a better sound than stock. Listed below are all of the things I've done to it.
  • The capsule has been replaced with a Peluso P-K47.
  • The Mitsubishi vacuum tube it came with has been replaced with a much-coveted Telefunken tube.
  • The tube socket has been isolated from the rest of the microphone with a spring loaded suspension mount in order to reduce microphonic noise.
  • A -10dB pad was added to the front of the mic. It came stock with a high frequency roll-off switch and an Omni/Cardioid switch.
  • All capacitors in the mic and power supply were replaced with higher quality capacitors.
  • The AC wiring in the power supply was rewired to be twisted pairs for better noise rejection.
  • The IEC power socket was replaced with a higher quality gold-plated socket.
  • A ground noise filter was added to the power supply.
  • A tube damper was added to the vacuum tube to further reduce microphonic noise (not pictured).
This microphone works perfectly and includes the following accessories:
  • The power supply
  • The original hard-shell case
  • A key for the locks on the case
  • The original microphone suspension/shock mount
  • The original 7-pin XLR cable that connects between the microphone and the power supply
  • An IEC power cable suitable for North America
There are minor blemishes in the paint from use, but there are no dents or dings in the microphone whatsoever. Check out the video (skip to 25:03) included in this listing for an example of this microphone with spoken word. It sounds fairly good on my voice as you'll hear, but it really shines on deeper male voices, upright bass, and tenor/baritone voiced horn instruments... IMHO.
